It's now easier than ever to teach programming with our new Tutorial Designer that allows anyone (even students) to design a lesson for others to follow. Just start with a project you've already created, and you can easily add step-by-step instructions to show someone how to build your project.
The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries and over 30 languages. Ages 4 to 104.
Here are ideas of apps and websites that teachers in my PLN used successfully in the past during Hour of Code: Start kindergartners with problem solving.
I wanted to start the sessions by giving students the simplest of explanations about what coding is. This one seemed to fit the bill.
With the Internet an integral part of everyone's daily lives for both business and pleasure, learning basic programming isn't just a smart idea, it's an essential skill for grown-ups and children alike. Learning how to build simple websites and games helps kids hone their design, logic and problem-solving skills, and allows them to express their ideas and creativity in lots of different ways.
Teach kids how to program with Dash and Dot, toy robots that make coding fun using apps on iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and phones.
We create connected toys - but that's not all. By fusing technology with robotics, our toys are teaching and inspiring tomorrow's inventors and innovators. Programming isn't easy, but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to give kids a strong foundation. All you need is a Sphero.
We are thrilled to announce that the Kodable Curriculum 2.0 is now LIVE and available via your Kodable Teacher Account! Take a moment to explore our new curriculum resources including:

Inspired by the short film, ‘Caine’s Arcade,’ the Global Cardboard Challenge is an annual event presented by the Imagination Foundation that celebrates child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it. This September, kids of all ages are invited to build anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. Then on Saturday, October 10th, 2015, a day that commemorates the flash mob that made Caine's day in the short film, communities come together and play!

By "programming" one another to draw pictures, students will begin to understand what programming is really about. The class will begin by having students instruct each other to color squares in on graph paper in an effort to reproduce an existing picture. If there’s time, the lesson can conclude with images that the students create themselves.
At the root of all computer science is something called an algorithm. The word “algorithm” may sound like something complicated, but really it’s just a list of instructions that someone can follow to achieve a result. To provide a solid base for the rest of your students’ computer science education, we’re going to focus on building a secure relationship with algorithms.
