Lokobe Reserve is a nature reserve in northwestern Madagascar. It is located on southeastern side of Nosy Be, an island off the coast of Madagascar. It is known for its black lemurs and the beautiful Nosy Be Panther Chameleon.
Ankarana Special Reserve in northern Madagascar was created in 1956. It is a small, partially vegetated plateau composed of 150-million-year-old middle Jurassic limestone. With an average annual rainfall of about 2,000 millimetres (79 in), the underlying rocks are susceptible to erosion, thereby producing caves and underground rivers-a karst topography.
Once a major location of plantation of sugar cane and production of its derived products ( sugar, rhum ), the island's main activities are now the plantation of Ylang Ylang ( for the production of essential oils ) and tourism. Nosy Be is the most developed tourism destination in Madagascar.
