Filming for Fond Memories: 10 Film Remakes to Hit Theatres Soon.

Remakes are often weak but they do touch on a specific nostalgia that we often look for. Sometimes going to the theater is not about an original storyline, it’s about feeling good for about two hours. Another fascinating thing about remakes is how they're modernized, what that says about our society now, and where it takes the story. Here are 6 remakes that could hit theaters in the next year or so.

1

The Goonies

The Goonies

It’s hard to think of anything that could possibly top the original Goonies film. Hopefully this one can capture hearts even if it has been 30 years since the first. There’s already a loyal fan base for this one, so maybe it can hit the nostalgia high notes.

2

Mrs. Doubtfire

Mrs. Doubtfire

There are talks about this remake being in the works. The original was a huge hit and Robin Williams was a big time actor. I’m not sure this film hit cult status at all, but I don’t know a person who isn’t familiar with the film even 20 years later. It has the possibility to reel in a new audience but the storyline might not be as quirky as it was then.

3

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park

It might be more of a sequel than a remake but whispers of a Jurassic Park 4 or “Jurassic World” have been confirmed in Hollywood. This one has been floating around for a while, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it. It could be a whole new story or a remake of the first. The timing for a remake is spot on if you're following Hollywood 90s remake trends.

4

Weird Science

Weird Science

It’s a touchy situation when you want to remake a John Hughes classic. This is especially true when Anthony Michael Hall was the king of the geeks during the 80s and that was special to the time period. Can these new but old characters re-fit into the roles that were so important to society during that time? Would it work now? Or are they going to have to tweak it for edge? We will just have to see.

5

Jumanji

Jumanji

Like Mrs. Doubtfire, another 90s Robin Williams movie is in talks for remake. I guess this guy brings in all those hardcore 90s feelings that we want back so bad. They’ll update this one to fit the times but it’ll rake in all those “first one” fans. Even if they just come to see how awful it is.

6

Point Break

Point Break

The Point Break remake is a go for 2015 and Gerard Butler is set to play Bodhi. This 90s surfer thriller does have a storyline that might fit well today because the undercover FBI stuff is easy to adapt. Also, 90s surfer clothing is back in style. This means everyone will look the same as they did in the first movie (kidding). It will be hard not to wish Keanu was playing the lead again. Also, we all miss Patrick Swayze. Sniff Sniff.

Annie Dec 19

This film is a wonderful full length feature on a favourite musical classic. Annie is a modern take on the original, with all the best songs still intact and ready for you to sing along to.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Apocalyptic stories usually come with bits and pieces of our own society, just for a touch of reality to add to the "what if". This remake of Mad Max looks exciting and interesting, as some of it has probably changed to fit who we are now.

Stephen King's "Pet Cemetery" and "It"

Two of Stephen Kings most memorable twisted stories are up for remakes. I cannot wait to see how these movies are done, as the originals are still some of the most iconic horror movies ever made.

Flatliners

Last year, it was rumoured that the Flatliners remake would be pressing ahead with a director attached. What comes next remains to be seen, in movies and in death.
