Fierce and Funny Ladies: 5 Hilarious Lady Comedians

Star of the series “Inside Amy Schumer”, Amy’s comedy takes the experiences of being a woman in our society to hilarious extremes. It’s brilliant because she uses comedy to turn seemingly mundane issues on their head and make us think about them. For example, her episode on the use of language in food shaming pulls the topic out, rips it apart, and throws it back at us in the funniest way.

Her honest and hilarious approach to social criticism has landed her over a million views on her YouTube channel and appearances on talk shows such as Anderson Cooper. Her famous video “S**t White girls say..To Black girls” was one of the most talked about videos in 2012 and probably 2013 as well. She’s known not only for her humor but also for pinpointing issues with wit and perfection.

Aubrey plays the wonderfully deadpan character April on Parks and Recreation. She does it so seamlessly we almost expect her to walk around with that bored look on her face all the time. Who knew that blunt and dark could be totally refreshing? Her Funny or Die ring pop ad is definitely worth a watch for anyone who enjoys dark twists.

Kristen has a way of making me feel awkward when I watch her but that’s why she’s so funny. I think it stems from her stalker role on Flight of the Conchords. Her stand up special didn’t go so well according to critics (including her own self- criticism) but her chaos is endearing. Also, comedy is comedy even when it’s not expected.

Charlyne has an indirect approach to comedy with her “this is just me” attitude. There are no straight up jokes in her performances. You’ll like it if you’re someone who prefers the subtle humor rather than slapstick in-your-face stuff. She shines when she blends her humor with comedians like Michael Cera and Demetri Martin. She's also brilliant on her own.
