After Dinner Cartoons: 5 Cartoons for the very Immature Mature Audience

Some cartoons are not made for Saturday mornings. Here are the funniest characters to come out after dark and give us a side-splitting break from our adult responsibilities.

Ren and Stimpy

Definitely an adult’s only cartoon, Ren and Stimpy was famous for its crude jokes. The show was controversial because it was aired on Nickelodeon and battled with the rules of the network. The 90s was a groundbreaking time for shows like this and Ren and Stimpy helped pave the way for other cartoons of the same nature.

Robot Chicken

This stop motion animated series produced by Seth Green makes fun of celebrities and pop culture icons. One would have to be well versed in 80s and 90s pop culture to understand the hilarious references in the sketches. If you are, this is a thoroughly enjoyable show. You'll definitely see a different side to He-Man.

Beavis and Butthead

Originally a MTV staple, Beavis and Butthead are 90s pop culture icons. The wonderfully stupid antics of these two teenage boys will forever go down in Gen X history. It has also been touted as a clever and subversive take on society. Like every other “low art”, it has also been blamed for the behavior of youth and the destruction of culture. That is why it’s such an awesome show.

Daria

Daria

Walking off of Beavis and Butthead, Daria is the smart and wry MTV anti beauty queen. Her monotone dialogue was perfect for her sarcastic mockery of anything high school. Like Beavis and Butthead, the cartoon is full of subversive social commentary. One of the best female cartoon characters by far.

Undergrads

Who wouldn’t like watching a cartoon about four stereotypical freshmen? I guess not very many people because it was cancelled before the second season. But the show is worth a watch even if you just need a nostalgic laugh. It would certainly be a good binge watch over beers in your dorm room.
