We like to get our hands on new gear early, and short of theft and corporate espionage one of the best ways to do that is by checking out Outdoor Retailer, a biannual product show for retailers, manufacturers and other industry pros.

We told you that Outdoor Retailer is, essentially, a giant toy store for powder fiends, adrenaline junkies and outdoorspeople alike. After four days of wandering the sprawling exhibition floor (and one skiing up and falling down Solitude Mountain), we stand behind that statement. In other words, it didn't disappoint.

I was at the Outdoor Retail Trade Show last week in Salt Lake City checking out the latest products that outdoor manufacturers and retailers will begin selling in Spring and Fall 2014. While I get to see a lot of new products, it seems like the number of companies that focus mostly on hiking, backpacking, and camping gets smaller every time I go to this conference.
