I measured my son's head to be ~19+" and I was leaning towards purchasing the small size helmet. I'm glad amazon was sold out and I was forced to purchase the x-small. The helmet comes with 3 sets of velcro-attached pad sets and he's using the set for the smallest head size.

I will go out on a line here and age this helmet for whoever is interested, since no one else (including Schwinn) has. Ages 6 MONTHS to about a maximum of 2 YEARS (child with head on small side.) Anything above that should get the adjustable youth size.
I can't beleive I found bicycle helmets that my two fantastic grandsons will wear. They are great helmets and the reason wearing them is so easy is they have a Mohawk across the top of them. That of course makes the boys cool.
