Here is my "project management wish list" that would allow me to be most efficient at executing projects? Add your wishes to the list.
A client who knows what they want, has a real business need and large budget to spend.
Often in the past I have had to use project tools that were clunky and were just a pain to work with. I wish that I had in my project tool arsenal the most effective tools that worked efficiently and made my life easier as a project manager, not harder.
If I was putting these wishes in order, this wish might rise near the top. I think every project managers wish was that they would always have the right amount of resources for their project and that these resource were available when they were needed to perform the work at hand.
The ultimate wish for this project manager is to be able to provide great value to my customer. I wish that each project I work on in the future will deliver everything my customer wants and that they are completely satisfied with each and every deliverable that the team produces.
It would be great to have project sponsors that were fully engaged and supportive of my projects and me as a project manager. Additionally, I would love it if they were fully trained to be a sponsor and that they were supported by the organization.
I love it when I have projects that are exciting and interesting. Those types of projects motivate me to come to work each day and immerse myself in the work. I wish that the scope of each and every project I lead contained that ever engaging work.
Teamwork is the engine that makes a project run smoothly. I wish that each of my future projects had a great team that worked together effectively and efficiently. It is important that the team works together to resolve issues and supports, leverages, and compliments each others strengths. It is also great if they get along well with each other and enjoy each others company.
I hate to waste time (unless of course it is kicking back and watching a good sporting event) and I especially hate wasting time on stupid and inefficient processes. I wish that each and every process that is defined on the project and most likely by the PMO is efficient and necessary for the effective execution of my project.
