That was the year my mother took me to Puerto de la Cruz on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands for the March school break. We were living in Germany then and travelled extensively. I was twelve, "going on 20″. These islands were formed from volcanic rock and have some fascinating vistas.

Ancient history has always been a major passion of mine. The town where I was born in Germany still has the wall around it that the conquering Romans built. In Europe, one is constantly exposed to these fascinating historical artifacts.

by · You see I am not traveling at the moment. I am back in Texas for a few months. I won't be headed back overseas until probably November. I also haven't been posting much lately. Mainly because of some personal things that I have been taking care of and also dealing with some tragic news.

As most of us head off on holiday in order to escape the stresses and strains of daily life, the last thing we want to worry about when we're lying by the hotel pool soaking up the rays is imminent economic collapse. However, following the recent euro-crisis, that was the unfortunate reality faced by holidaymakers in Greece.

Driving along today I was thinking about all the things I've realised since our Life Changing Year family travel adventure in 2012. The more I thought about it, the more things popped into my head and I figured I'd share the list here for your enjoyment.

Here we are guys, I've reach my 100th post on my travel blog today! I had already celebrated my 100th post, 0n my writing blog, and a couple of weeks later on my personal development blog, and today it's this baby's turn.

Have you heard of the English Riviera? It's a great nickname for Torquay, a coastal town located in Devon, along the English Channel (and the surrounding area). Why the English Riviera? Well, there are 9 beautiful sandy beaches, high water quality, a unique microclimate (including palm trees), literary treasures, and relaxing hotels in Torquay.

They were sorry it wasn't a clearer day, because on a clear day, apparently one can see all the way across the sea to the islands that border the Connemara region of western Ireland. Sparsely populated, and therefore relatively untouched and rugged, this region of Ireland gripped my heart and wouldn't let go.
