The Garden is a constantly evolving, conceptual punk band based in Orange County, California. Established in in 2011 by twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears, the band consistently defies categorization and continues to break ground in their self inflicted 'Vada Vada' genre*. They are the auditory invaders of the new world; borderless, informed and decentralized, slick sound released from constraint and old ideologies.
From the UK, Fenech Soler are making their return to Los Angeles for a coveted show date at the Bootleg Theater on Thursday, March 29. Last February, we caught Fenech Soler’s Los Angeles debut, and boy did they “baptize the crowd in the shimmering grandiose of their synth-drenched tunes.”

Shake up a cocktail comprised of equal parts Tina Turner, Freddie Mercury, Grace Jones, and Lux Interior. Add a twist of orange peel, and apply flame directly to mixture. Don’t take a sip. Take a swig, and experience the essence of musical artist Jen Awad.
Jen Awad, a half Egyptian, half Peruvian native Angeleno, ignited her passion for music long before she understood the meaning of the word "genre". Her palate for blues, punk, soul, R&B, and glitter rock formed the unique amalgam that gives this self-taught artist a sound that is all her own.
KOLARS
When it became clear that glam folk act He’s My Brother She’s My Sister was heading towards a
hiatus, band members Rob Kolar and Lauren Brown decided to go off and find their own beat. What
they learned from their previous outfit was that even folk fans want to find music that makes them
move.

It has been a whirlwind few years for Gabrielle Aplin whose career took off
when she built a massive fanbase by posting videos of herself singing online
back in 2012. Aplin released her debut album English Rain in 2013 which spawned her
iconic cover of ‘The Power Of Love’ which reached #1 in the UK.
Halfway between LA and Phoenix on a desolate stretch of I-10 lies Desert Center, a mostly abandoned town that mainly serves as a gas stop along the barren interior of California. Portland punks Guantanamo Baywatch, like so many touring bands, have passed through the town countless times on their way between shows. But the town has also become a particular source of inspiration for guitarist/vocalist Jason Powell, who recently relocated from Oregon to Arizona.

"Heavy on reverb and angst, Moaning's "Misheard" starts out like an outtake from an early Minus the Bear track, settling in to a morose verse ending in "I just miss her." We feel you, homie. The chorus is where Moaning yells with fist clenched at the heavens, letting the distortion rip for a heavy, and heady, section before settling back into the dirge and purge. Music is therapy, clearly.

Brighter Wounds finds Son Lux transformed all over again. Last time around, on 2015's exultant and explosive Bones, Ryan Lott's genre-defying solo project became a bonafide band, igniting his volatile mix of electronic pop, unusual soul and outright experimentalism. This fifth album marks another fundamental shift as Lott leaves universal themes behind to write from a personal perspective. While making these songs, he became a father to a baby boy and lost a best friend to cancer. Days of "firsts" were also days of "lasts," and the normal fears of first time parenthood were compounded by a frightening new reality -- Lott's son arrived shortly after Election Day. These songs draw on all of that: warm reflections of a fading past, the pain of still-present loss, and a mix of anxiety and hope for a future promised to none. Fittingly, guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang help deliver Son Lux's most dynamic, inviting album yet.
