Truly a bird lover's paradise, the Tal Chhapar Wildlife Sanctuary comes alive with the beautiful color of thousands of migratory birds, especially the harriers, including Montagur's Harriers, Marsh Harriers, Pale Harriers and Hen Harriers. Other birds commonly seen in the sanctuary include Imperial Eagles, Tawny Eagles, Short-toed Eagle, Sparrow Hawks, Skylarks, Crested Larks, Brown Doves, Green Bee-eaters, Black Ibis and Demoiselle Cranes, which will be here till March. Blue-checked Bee-eaters and Green Bee-eaters are commonly found in Tal Chappar, for this is their breeding place.
This area of small drainage basins attracts more than 8,000 winter migratory birds belonging to 217 species, mostly from European and North Asian countries. It is a breeding habitat for grey herons, darters, spoonbills, white ibis, Asian openbill stork, and night herons. It has also attracted indigenous endangered species including painted stork, grey heron, darter, little cormorant, little egret, intermediate egret, cattle egret, common teal, spotbills, pintail, and flamingos

As many as 267 species of birds including 70 species of migratory birds have been identified and recorded at Pani Dihing.The common birds seen here are bar-headed goose, greylag goose, spot-billed duck, mallards, gadwall, wigeon, garganey, shoveller, red crested pochard, common pochard, ferruginous duck, adjutant stork, kingfisher, lesser adjutant stork, open bill stork, white necked stork.The rare griffon and white-rumped vultures have also been spotted at the sanctuary.
October to April is the best time to visit the Karnala Bird Sanctuary.
The migratory birds that come down to Karnala Bird Sanctuary are ashy minivet, red-breasted flycatcher,Three Toed Kingfisher, blackbird, black-headed cuckoo-shrike, blue-throat,Malabar Trogon, the blue-headed rock thrush, etc.
