The Ten Greatest Songs Written, Produced or Sung by Kashif

As a special tribute to the late talented musician, Kashif, who died suddenly on September 25, 2016, I've created a ranking of the 10 greatest songs written, produced or sung by him. The rankings are based on the songs' relative popularity, as indicated by their chart successes during the time of their initial release as well as their endurance over the years since.

All released between 1981 and 1989, these are some of the smoothest, most sophisticated, romantic and, in some cases, funkiest jams ever put on wax. Kashif's unique blend of minimalist, keyboard-driven arrangements provided an R&B soundtrack for the 1980s, one which his sudden passing will fortunately never take from us.

I hope readers enjoy this tribute to one of music's greatest talents.

And may you rest eternally in peace, Kashif Saleem.

10. Baby Don't Break Your Baby's Heart - Kashif (1984)

The countdown lifts off with the first single from Kashif's second album, 1984's Send Me Your Love. "Baby Don't Break Your Baby's Heart" wasn't much of a stretch from the material from his first album, but nevertheless became his second top-ten on the Billboard R&B singles chart, peaking at #6. It was another of the many top-ten R&B songs he produced that failed to crossover to pop, never even making the Billboard Hot 100.

Hi, I'm DJ Rob, owner and author of the music blogsite djrobblog.com. I live in Chicago, IL and have been doing the blogsite since January 2015. It features articles about music news, history and trivia - both old and new. The features I enjoy doing the most are my djroblists. I've done dozens of lists ranking everything from blue-eyed soul singers to Prince's greatest songs. I only recently started converting them to listly to increase interaction with my readers. Take some time to enjoy them and let me know what you think! And check out djrobblog.com when you can!
