Cultural Attractions in Abu Dhabi – A World of Tradition

The culture in Abu Dhabi is centred on typical Arabic Islamic Traditions. It is a reflection of tolerance and commitment as taught through Islam. This is reflected in the quite cultural attractions of the city.

Qasr Al Muwaiji

The Qasr Al Muwaiji is the birth place of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyen; President of the UAE. Located in Al Ain Qasr the building has been well restored and is open to public as a museum. The building previously was used as a 'diwan' a fort and official residence of the President. It was later used a date plantation until lovingly restored to its former glory. There is a comprehensive exhibition there that narrates the story of the building and its occupants throughout time.

Al Jahili Fort

This is considered one of the most historic buildings in the UAE. Erected in 1891 the purpose of the fort was to protect the city and defend the palm plantations.

The Heritage Theme Park

Located within the huge Al Ain Sportplex the Al Ain Heritage and Culture Village is an amalgamation of Emirati traditions, culture and art. The heritage park offers a marvellous insight to the past lifestyles of the Arabic people. At the village you will find two theatres, a lovely old market and a café. At the theatre regular shows, concerts and other performances are scheduled on a regular basis. It is open from Saturday to Thursday from 9.30 am to 1pm and 5 pm to 10 pm. On Fridays the park is open from 4 pm to 10.30 pm.

Saluki Centre

This is a place dedicated to the traditional desert dogs the – Salukis. Traditions of hunting, training and breeding Salukis are honoured there. This unique breed of dog indigenous to desert regions is quite fascinating. Visitors to the centre will love interacting with them and learning of the deep traditional roots between the Emirati People and loyal Saluki.

Hili Archaeological Garden

Located on the road to Dubai the gardens are just 10kms from Al Ain. The famous archaeological site is surrounded by a lush garden making it a favourite amongst locals and tourists. The archaeological site is home to digs that have uncovered artefacts from the Bronze Age dating from 2,500 to 2,000 BC.
