For the past week or so I've been lucky to get a chance to shoot Canon's new flagship camera - the EOS 1DX MKII. As many of you know, I used the previous version of this camera extensively on the AIR project in conjunction with the Canon 5Ds.
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is the company's latest flagship DSLR. Its lineage and price tag make clear that it's aimed at professionals, but what does that really mean? We take a closer look at exactly who the 1D X II is for and how those features are relevant.
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is the company's latest pro-level camera, now built around a 20.2MP CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel AF technology. It uses a body that's a subtle evolution of the classic 1D design, but inside almost every aspect of the camera's feature set has been overhauled.
Just as Nikon announced the successor to its four-year-old flagship pro camera at CES a few weeks ago, Canon has done the same today. The EOS-1DX Mark II is Canon's answer to the D5, targeting professional sports photographers and photojournalists with a fast-shooting body designed to work in challenging conditions.
Unless you have been living under a rock, we have all been expecting this announcement. Tonight it was made official, with Canon announcing their new flagship body, the EOS-1 D X Mark II; their response to the Nikon D5.
The wait is over, and Canon has unveiled its brand new flagship sports, action and press camera, the EOS-1D X Mark II. Keen Canon watchers have long suspected a new model was in the wings, but it's only now that the specifications have become official.
